Is MLK a Prophet?

A prophet is defined as someone who is an inspired teacher and speaks the will of God. A prophet is someone who often suffers persecution, who’s message usually angers people, and preaches the word of God. Besides the fact that Dr. King is a preacher his speeches and message of equality are filled with the word of God. He has suffered persecution against those who defy his movement, even to the point of being thrown in jail. His message angered those who did not want equality for all peoples of any color or creed. All men are created equal is the word of God. From the definition of a prophet there is no doubt that Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. is one of them.

Chalcedon Creed Rewrite

We, them, following the holy Father, all with one consent, teach men to confess one and the same Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, the same perfect in Godhead and also perfect in manhood; both completely god and completely man in body and soul. Of the same essence as the Father according to the Godhead, and of the same essence as us according to the Manhood; in all things like unto us, without sin; begotten before all ages of the Father according to the Godhead, and in these latter days, for us and for our salvation, born of the Virgin Mary, the God-bearer, according to the Manhood;

BBC’s The Monastery

I believe that monastic life in 2020 is a very bold choice. However, I do believe that it does aid one in search of a spiritual quest. As shown by these men. Especially in a time where norms and rolls are constantly changing. I could see how monastic life could be beneficial as a way to disconnect from that and focus on spiritual growth.

I believe there are many things we can learn from the monks. The rigid ness of their routine and rules are more than just being stickler. It has an intellectual importance to it as well an obvious spiritual one. It is incredible to see how such a routine can change someone’s spiritual attitude. It didn’t take me a while to understand why the monks made 5 men go through such routines each day because I had to do something similar as far as a routine on my walk with God. For me it was a lesson, an activity, and prayer each Sunday and Wednesday. There was also supposed to be prayer every morning and evening. Routines like the ones the monks showed the men give you a sense of rigid structure that not only gave you a drive to learn more about god but you demanded it of yourself.

It is really incredible to watch the 40 day journey of these men and how they differ and contrast with each others experiences and my experiences with religion. Many of them ask the same question of whether this is relevant to us? This is a question I ponder myself a lot even as a Christian because there is always some doubt that floods your mind because faith is hard. Especially when Antony and Gary argue, it showed the struggle that one has when you have a spiritual journey.

Martin Luther

Martin Luther was angry at the sale of indulgences and other egregious practices performed by the Catholic Church. Luther believes that people were saved through faith, not putting a money to get a free pass heaven, or out of purgatory. Due to his anger over the Indulgences he nailed the 95 Theses on the doors of his local church. Luther’s view of christian liberty is that christians should be able to read and intemperate the bible for themselves. From the perspective of the time he had a very liberal view of christian liberty. I think Luther’s ideas to reform the Catholic Church he knew was necessary. The institution had overstepped its boundaries by collecting money from indulgences in my opinion. However, I think it was a little naive of Luther to believe that the church would stay together anyway. There was too much instability for one institution to stay together, and in the end it is an institution of man.
